  • The PCB is a control board mounted to the frame of a hard drive, which stores logical system data and controls electrical current sent to the internal HDD. When any commands or electrical currents are sent to a hard drive, they must first pass through the PCB. Therefore, if the PCB is damaged, the hard drive cannot be properly accessed.

Product Review: Terra Universal Horizontal Laminar Flow Station

Importance: If you don't plan on performing any clean room procedures such as head-swaps or platter transplants, then this has no value to you. For anyone who is trying to seriously break out in the data recovery industry this is an absolute must have. Fact: At least half of all data recovery cases are a mechanical failure.	5 Stars
Value: The main goal of a laminar flow station is to create a safe environment to perform clean room procedures without the heavy cost of building a complete ISO 100 clean room, and while it will still be one of the more expensive tools required for data recovery it pays for itself very quickly as performing high end procedures such as head-swaps and platter transplants are not possible without it.	4 Stars
Reliability: While Terra did not provide us with any MTBF (mean time between failure) numbers; it is easy to assume that this is an industrial strength unit mean for continuous use for long periods of time. I would expect no less then ~300,000 hours before needing to replace the HEPA filter, or the fans.	4 Stars
Usability: The nature of this device is extremely simple. After the initial setup, all the user has to do is turn the dial to the desired level and go to work. One thing to keep in mind is that while this product will keep the air clean to the best of it's abilities; while it is off dust can and will enter it so it is in the user's best interest to clean it regularly, and you will still want to designate a non-carpeted room that will be maintained well to reduce the particle count within it greatly.	4 Stars
Performance: This is an area where this flow station certainly does not slouch. It's powerful fans produce a staggering 650CFM (cubic feet / minute) of air flow while the high quality HEPA filter cleans 99.9% of air particles .03 microns and above. This does come at a cost of around 40-50dba and a mild vibration, but nothing too distracting.	5 Stars
Overall: This is a powerful, reliable, easy to use product that is absolutely necessary if you want to be successful in the data recovery industry.	4.5 Stars
